Council Activities

Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities

One of our most popular and successful programs. Conducted by the Knights of Columbus state and local councils, the proceeds benefit individuals with intellectual disabilities. The Knights and their family members collect donations outside retail stores and street corners. In appreciation for donations, contributors are usually presented with a Tootsie Roll.

Mass For Deceased Members

All Souls' Day, November 2nd, is the day set apart in the Catholic Church for the commemoration of the faithfully departed. The celebration is based on the doctrine that the souls of the faithful which at death have not been cleansed from venial sins, or have not atoned for past transgressions, are debarred from the Beatific Vision, and that the faithful on earth can help them by prayers and especially by the sacrifice of the Mass. Council 4175 was among the first councils in Illinois to have Memorial Masses in our chambers for Deceased Members. During the month of November, Father Ernest A. Burtle Council 4175 has remembered our Brother Knights during our Annual Deceased Member Mass. All the names of deceased members are read and a candle is lit as a special remembrance for Brother Knights who were laid to rest during the past year.

Catholic School Scholarships

On an annual basis, Knights of Columbus Council 4175 provides scholarships to sons and daughters of its members. The Paul McAnarney Annual Tuition Aid Drawing is held at the July Council meeting each year. The drawing was named after Paul McAnarney, one of the Council 4175 organizing committee members and the councils second Grand Knight. Tuition Aid awards are drawn for three high school scholarships and five grade school scholarships.

Youth Activities

Council 4175 has always been family oriented and has celebrated our children. Since its early inception, the Council has sponsored baseball, softball and basketball teams, hosted teenage dances, furnished the facilities for youth retreats. Council 4175 has sponsored the Knight of Columbus Free Throw Championship at the Council. Boys and girls ages 10 to 14 can progress on through the district and state competitions. In addition, the Council sponsors Halloween parties, Christmas parties, and wiener roasts for the children and grand children of our members.
