Knight of the Year
The Knight of the Year is chosen from the twelve members chosen as Knights of the Month. Since Council 4175 has been in its first permanent home in the basement of the old Fox Hole Tavern, a Knight has been chosen monthly for his exemplary contributions and service to Council 4175. The first banquet celebrating the Council's anniversary was held on February 18, 1958, at the downtown Springfield Knights of Columbus Auditorium. Supreme Director Charles Morgan from Chicago was the principal speaker. The first Knight of the Year was awarded to Alfred Witkins. Each anniversary since that time, this tradition has been continued and has become the high point of each Council year.
